So recently a few days ago I decided to actually play Titanfall because it was recommended to me. The gameplay looks generally fun plus it helped that there was a huge steam sale!
My friend told me that the campaign was absolutely phenomenal and one of the best he's played. I however was pretty skeptical. I've played a lot of story campaigns and there have only been a few games that have really touched me or made me really engaged.
Most of the time whenever I'm in a campaign, halfway through I get bored or the gameplay does not feel engaging enough and I end up quitting and never finishing the game. That's why I was extremely skeptical of Titanfall, especially considering that from what I've seen up until this point. It was mainly marketed towards a PVP audience like space call of duty and I don't really like cod so I wasn't expecting much. but this one was definitely an exception!
Every single level in the TitanFall 2 campaign encourages you to play like a pilot as if you were struggling for your life on the frontier. The moment to moment action and tons of verticality in the map is great! + the game actively encourages wall running which is so fun.
As someone who's come from a more abilities based games who find any kind of game that's a tactical shooter, absolutely boring and a snoozefest. I really appreciate how these levels encourage you to embrace the movement shooter in you because these Titanfall levels had me on the edge of my seat, from every encounter.
Not to mention the gradual bond between you and BT, it's absolutely phenomenal and actually made you feel a part of the story. You can feel a real connection between Cooper and BT. In fact I shed a little bit of a tear when the campaign was over, because I felt really empty afterwards and BT's sacrifice was truly something that I don't think I'll ever be able to forget.
This has to be one of the best campaigns I've ever played in my life. Especially for first person shooters if I had to rank this for first person shooters, I don't think anything comes close to this. It truly is a crime that this got buried under the yearly cod slop.
So my final rating for this I have to give it a phenomenal 10/10 if the game ever goes on sale I highly recommend picking it up. Just so that you can experience playing through the campaign. The campaign alone is more than worth it even at full price. But Titanfall also has a great community and the general PVP combat is crisp and responsive even to this day. Nothing feels out of date, it's really a shame they never made a Titanfall 3 but one can hope!
